SageNet Selected to Upgrade and Expand Phillips 66 SCADA Network With Latest SkyEdge II-c Technology
TULSA, Okla. – June 4, 2020 — SageNet, a Tulsa-based managed network services and cybersecurity solutions provider, has been selected to upgrade and expand the SCADA satellite network which serves more than 700 Phillips 66 locations throughout the United States.
Phillips 66 is a diversified US energy manufacturing and logistics company headquartered in Houston, Texas. The company processes, transports, stores and markets fuels and products globally.
SageNet has entered into a five-year contract extension and will continue to provide satellite services for the Phillips 66 SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) network. This network is used to monitor Phillips 66’s pipeline and assets, which include over 12,000 miles of operated pipelines and 64 terminal locations. SageNet will also coordinate installation and maintenance of the satellite VSAT sites and upgrade the Phillips 66 SCADA network to the industry’s leading satellite technology – the SkyEdge II-c VSAT platform.
Developed by Gilat Satellite Networks, a worldwide leader in satellite networking technology, solutions and services, SkyEdge II-c supports multiple applications such as in-flight and maritime connectivity, broadband consumer internet access, cellular backhaul, and standard and customized enterprise data connectivity offerings. Additionally, an optional Layer-2 implementation is available which makes the VSAT network transparent to customers’ preferred routing protocols. Featuring complete teleport redundancy via seamless hub geodiversity, the scalable platform consists of a high-performance, fully redundant hub baseband system, a family of mission-specific VSATs and a comprehensive network management system.
The first sites to be upgraded include some of Phillip’s 66’s newest assets– stretching across parts of the Southern US. Over the next eight to 12 months, SageNet will upgrade the entirety of the remaining Phillips 66 SCADA network to SkyEdge II-c.
According to SageNet CEO Daryl Woodard, the new VSAT technology will even further enhance the stringent monitoring Phillips 66 demands of its assets in support of safety and compliance efforts required by the energy industry.
“We’re excited to partner with Phillips 66 and move them to the most advanced VSAT technology,” said Woodard. “The SkyEdge II-c VSAT network delivers innovative transmission technologies to help Phillips 66 take their SCADA network into the future.”
The satellite services provided to Phillips 66 are further strengthened by SageNet’s new state-of-the-art West Coast teleport partner. One of the primary benefits of this southern California satellite hub is its geographic diversity from SageNet’s existing teleports. The West Coast hub is located in the high desert region with low annual rainfall that is ideal for the Ku-band VSAT satellite services provided by SageNet.
“This network refresh represents the most advanced Gilat VSAT technology that Phillips 66 has deployed with SageNet since 1999,” said John Brader, SageNet’s Vice President and General Manager of Satellite Services. “As the pipeline industry’s regulatory and technology landscape has evolved, SageNet has provided the VSAT technology to help meet those needs. SageNet’s geographically diverse SkyEdge II-c VSAT network services for Phillips 66 represent the ultimate in network security and availability.”
SageNet is recognized as a leader in VSAT technology and mission-critical communications for the energy, public safety and retail industries, offering primary and secondary connectivity.
SageNet has more than 30 years of experience providing a broad range of managed network services to large enterprises, from VSAT network services, primary and back-up networks, wireless solutions, digital signage, merchant connectivity and PCI compliance to customized networking technology solutions – all optimized to meet the needs of multi-site operations.
